| Overview: |
The Aerospace, Defense and Marine (AD&M) business unit of Tyco Electronics has opportunities for experienced product managers in both its Menlo Park (San Francisco Bay Area) and Asheville, NC locations. The business unit is seeking to improve its bench strength in these key positions and is seeking individuals with solid records of accomplishment as product managers to join a growing business unit within Tyco Electronics. Identified individuals will be placed in an accelerated development program to enable them to be deployed in senior-level product manager roles within AD&M. The Product Manager will have management responsibility for a number of product lines within one of AD&M’s key product areas (wire & cable, connectors, electronic relays). Our Product Managers are true “General Managers” of their product lines with responsibility for their products’ life cycle, market positioning, pricing, profit & loss, sales forecasting, product engineering updates and act as a liaison between manufacturing, sales, and the end customer. Successful Product Managers effectively collaborate with many entities throughout the organization including development & sustaining engineering, sales, operations, finance and pricing. A key challenge for the successful candidate will be to formulate and execute plans to strategically grow their product lines. Key Job Responsibilities - Manage the P&L for a series of product lines (profit, loss, pricing, margin, etc.)
- Formulate strategic plans to exponentially grow revenues in market segments
- Understand applications of product technologies to address specific customer needs
- Ability to effectively interact with the sales organization to bolster knowledge of the product lines to increase revenues
- Forecast both market conditions and sales for manufacturing operations
- Knowledge and analysis of competitors and competitor products
- Detail product strategies based on SWOT analysis
- Utilize product, market, and competitive knowledge to recommend product pricing actions
- Partnering with the sales organization, manage the customer relationship including quality, delivery and profitability
- Overall responsibility for a products’ life cycle including justification for prototype designs, working with development engineering and the customer to determine specs, product launch, product modifications, market positioning, pricing changes, delivery, and manufacturing performance
- Presentations on product lines to internal audience (i.e. sales) as well as to customers
- Design and use of TAM (Total Available Market) models followed by strategies to capture additional market share
- Use of VOC (Voice of Customer) tools to understand customers’ technology needs, strategic direction and how AD&M can tailor an engineered solution to meet those needs

| Responsibilities & Qualifications: |
Required Experiences / Skills / Background - The ideal candidate will have a technical background and education with a significant business component
- Bachelors degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical, Material Science) preferred. Minor in Business Administration or MBA ideal
- 3-5 years of product management experience, preferably for an electronics product line in a related industry; additional time in a technical sales position is also ideal
- P&L management experience and knowledge
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate cross functionally and to influence without direct authority
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Background in customer relations, particularly in managing a multiple-product line with a key customer
- Experience in managing a full product life cycle
- Excellent project management skills
- Ability and willingness to travel as required
- Ability and willingness to relocate in ~ 3 years to progress to a position of greater responsibility
- Strong negotiation abilities (experience in pricing or contract negotiations desirable)
