Overview:

 

The Aerospace, Defense and Marine Division of Tyco Electronics provides highly engineered wire & cable and other interconnection solutions to the aerospace and similar markets.

 

We are looking for a process development engineer working in the Advanced Development Group who would initially be responsible for developing manufacturing processes for high temperature, lightweight cables, typically with foam dielectrics. The engineer would work with materials development and product engineers along with manufacturing personnel to develop and improve the processes that ensure the production of high quality uniform product. Ongoing work would also focus on process improvement to reduce scrap and cost, and to improve efficiency. They would work closely with equipment vendors and material suppliers.



Responsibilities & Qualifications:

 

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

 

1) Provide processing expertise in complex technical projects initially relating to wire and cable process steps such as: extrusion, cabling, taping, braiding, and jacketing.

2) Provide capital equipment and sourcing definition; specify and implement new manufacturing processes and equipment; identify and develop equipment vendors

3) Work with a diverse team of engineers, technicians and managers from different departments, business units, vendors and customers.

4) Correct and resolve product problems by investigating product design changes, process or equipment changes, and tooling modifications

5) Provide a leadership role in manufacturing continuous improvement focused on lean principles: process control, scrap reduction and machine utilization improvements

6) Provide the process development input needed in the early stages of new product development and facilitate the introduction of new products into Tyco Electronics manufacturing plants around the worlds.

 

Required Skills, Education, Experience:

 

  • Bachelor of Science or higher in Plastics, Mechanical or Chemical Engineering
  • Experience with the properties and processing of polymers, preferably with continuous processes.
  • Experience with heat transfer properties of materials
  • Familiarity with the aerospace, defense or marine industries
  • Familiarity with:

6 Sigma process and tools (Black Belt desirable)

Design of experiments (DOE) & Taguchi Methodology

Failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA)

Statistical process control (SPC/SQC)

Supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA)

Computer Aided Design (CAD)

  • Wire & Cable process or equipment manufacturing experience is desirable
